Atlanta, Ga. – The Kentucky men?s swimming and diving team earned honorable mention All-America honors Thursday in the 200 freestyle relay event at the Men?s NCAA Championships in Atlanta. After day one at the NCAA Championships, UK stands in 23rd-place with 10 points.

The Wildcats gained all 10 of their points and garnered honorable mention All-America honors by placing 12th with a time of 1:19.89 in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of seniors Daniel Farnham and Steven Manley as well as freshmen Warren Grobbelaar and Mickey Malul just missed guaranteeing a top-8 placement in the prelims by finishing :00.13 behind Alabama?s relay team.

Farnham also competed in the 50 freestyle swim but was unable to advance to the finals after placing 19th.

?We had some good swims today,? head coach Gary Conelly said. ?We look forward to returning to the pool tomorrow because we’ll have some good opportunities to pick up points in Friday?s events.?

The NCAA Championships continue tomorrow at noon EST with the 100 breaststroke, the 200 freestyle, the 800 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay events. Fans can check ukathletics.com for a recap after the day?s action concludes.
