LEXINGTON ? After leading Kentucky to a series victory over No. 8 LSU, first baseman Ryan Strieby has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

Strieby hit .500 in the series with a home run and double while driving in six and scoring five. He had three hits and three RBIs in the Friday victory before knocking in two in Saturday?s win.

Earlier in the week, Strieby had four hits, including a double in the Wildcats two victories over Cleveland State. With a hit all five games during the week, Strieby extended his team-high hitting streak to nine games and has now reached safely in all 21 games this year.

Strieby has arguably been the best player in the SEC this season. He is the only player in the conference to rank in the league?s top five in batting average (.398) and slugging percentage (.711).

For good measure, Strieby is among the league leaders in a number of other categories. His 12 doubles are tops in the conference and on pace to break the school record. He is also tied for the league lead with 29 RBIs while ranking second in runs scored with 23 and hits with 33. His four homers are tied for 10th in the conference.

Not just an offensive threat, Strieby has yet to commit an error in an SEC best 241 chances. He has also been in on a league-leading 22 double plays.

Strieby is the second Wildcat to win the award this year and the fourth over the past two seasons. Two weeks ago, Sean Coughlin was the SEC Player of the Week after leading UK to a 4-1 weekly record. Last year, Billy Grace and John Shelby each earned the honor once.
