GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? Senior Sunshine State native Ali Kicklighter (DeLand, Fla.) carded a three-round total of 228 (71-75-82) to lead the Kentucky women?s golf team to a ninth place finish Sunday at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational. The Wildcats finished with a 930 (304-310-316) over the two-day event hosted by the University of Florida at its University Golf Course.
Kicklighter, in her final return to her home state, finished the tournament in a tie for 19th place, highlighted by tying her career-best with a 71 on the first day of play.
Host Florida captured its home event with an 884 (289-294-301), while Big 10 foe Purdue finished second with an 898 (289-304-305). The Lady Gators claimed the tournament trophy by 14 strokes over the Boilermakers. Florida sophomore Sandra Gal captured the individual crown, the first such event title of her career, after she fired a season-low of 217 for the tourney.
Sophomore Elizabeth Dotson (White Bluff, Tenn.) finished in a tie for 25th place with a 230 (76-79-75), while fellow second-year golfer Beth Felts (Chattanooga, Tenn.) finished in a tie for 38th place with a 235 (80-79-76).
Junior Katie Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) concluded tournament play in a tie for 55th place with a 240 (80-77-83) and senior Erin Faulkner (Bowling Green, Ky.) finished in a tie for 65th place with a 246 (77-86-83) to round out the tournament field for the Cats.
Competing as an individual, junior Marissa Muir (Tucson, Ariz.) finished in 75th place with a 263 (95-85-83).
Kentucky returns to action March 27-28, when it travels to Wilmington, N.C., to compete in the Lady Seahawk Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Complete results and a recap will be available on ukathletics.com.
