Junior Rachel Riley was nominated UK Gymnast of the Week by the coaching staff. Riley posted 9.7s or better at Georgia last weekend on three of four events, including a 9.775 (season-best) on bars while filling in for the injured Sarai Sevier. For the meet, Riley notched a season-best 38.900 in all-around competition.
A quick glance has UK ranked 18th in the recent GymInfo Poll. Junior Krystle Cook checks in at 27th nationally for all-around average (39.100), t-17th on vault (9.870) and t-11th on bars (9.875). Freshman Heather Hite continues to lead the Cats on beam with a No. 13 national mark and a 9.855 regional qualifying average. As a team, Kentucky ranks in the top 20 nationally in all four events, led by a No. 16 ranking on vault (48.890).
This week, the No. 18 Cats (7-5, 1-5) try to get back on the winning track as they host their regular season home finale with Ball State and Air Force, Fri., March 10, at 7:30 pm., in Memorial Coliseum. The meet will honor UK seniors Bethany Strauch and Staci O?Keefe.
