DORADO, Puerto Rico. ? The University of Kentucky men?s golf team turned in a solid first-round performance as it fired a team score of 282 today, Mar. 5, in Dorado, Puerto Rico. The Wildcats are in second place, just two strokes behind Texas Tech (280) who leads after one round at the Hyatt Plantation Club Intercollegiate.
Texas Tech leads the 11-team field with a team score of 280, followed by the Cats. Charlotte is currently in third place with a total of 283, while host team Georgia State is fourth with a team score of 288. Georgia Southern and North Florida are tied for fifth with identical score of 289.
Freshman Andy Winings leads the Wildcats and is tied for second in the individual standings after shooting a first-round 69, one stroke shy of his career low. Brad Doster also ranks among the top 10 for the Wildcats. The sophomore from Winter Park, Fla., posted a day one score of 70 to tie for sixth. Senior Matt Kohn fired a 71 to tie for 11th, while junior Tyler Wilson is tied for 16th with a score of 72. Freshman Dan Woltman rounds out the scoring for Kentucky with a score of 74 to tie for 32nd overall after one day of play.
The three-day event continues Monday, Mar. 6, as the Cats tee off at 8:00 a.m.
