Lexington, Ky. – After losing the doubles point, the No. 19 Kentucky men?s tennis team (3-2) bounced back in resounding fashion to take five of six singles matches Sunday to secure the 5-2 victory over 71st-ranked Purdue in the first of a doubleheader at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center.

The match up against the Boilermakers began with the Cats dropping two of three doubles matches. Freshman Bruno Agostinelli and sophomore Marcus Sundh tied Purdue at one victory apiece when they defeated Kelubia Mabatah and Griffin Neinberg 8-2. Purdue clinched the doubles point when P.J. Rose and Eric Hodgman snapped seniors Nate Emge and Alex Hume?s six-match winning streak with an 8-5 tally.

The Cats came out on fire in singles action winning five of six matches. Kentucky?s three ranked players (No. 48 Agostinelli, No. 61 Hume and No. 83 Emge) dominated their opposition winning their matches in straight sets. Hume extended his winning streak in singles play to six matches with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Colin Foster.

Senior Carey Rubin and freshman Shane Collins also notched victories against the Boilermakers. Rubin clinched the match for UK at the No. 4 spot with his 6-4, 6-3 win over Purdue?s Rose. Collins, a native of Louisville, Ky., secured his second victory of the dual match season when he defeated Purdue?s Mabatah 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
