BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The University of Kentucky track and field teams finished day one competition at the Hoosier Relays Friday night. Freshman thrower Ashley Muffet hit an NCAA provisional mark and a personal-best in the shot put.

Muffet?s toss (51-6.50) improved her personal-best by exactly one foot and moves the North Canton, Ohio native into third all-time indoors at UK.

Sophomore John Richardson ran a season-best 4:06.65 in the invitational mile, good for second place and just shy of an NCAA provisional mark (4:04.90).

Junior Georganne Way place first in the invitational 800 in a season-best time 2:10.19.

Freshman Gordon McKenzie advanced to Saturday?s final in the 60 with a 6.78 in the semifinals. The Queens, N.Y. native also advance to tomorrow?s finals in the 200 with a second place finish (21.57). McKenzie now owns UK?s top 200 mark for the season. Sophomore Justin Harrison and freshman Jose Acevedo also advanced.

Sophomores Dan Hutson and Gabe McLaren will compete in Saturday?s 600-meter finals after both finishing in the top 12.

Freshman Ryan Finn cruise to an easy first place finish in the prelims of the open 800 (1:54.22). Stephan Smith went after an NCAA provisional mark in the invitational 800, but fell short with a time of 1:51.21.

Other Cats set to advance to tomorrow?s finals include; Gavin Ball (shot put), Justin Harrison (400), Kenya Patton (60, 200), Talonda Ingram (60), Ashley Trimble (60 hurdles), Muffet (shot put, weight throw), and Ildiko Varga (weight throw).

The Cats resume action tomorrow at the Hoosier Relays and then travel to Ames, Iowa next weekend for the Iowa State Classic (Feb. 10-11).
