The No. 21 Kentucky men?s tennis team had a big second day at the South Florida Spring Invitational on Saturday winning seven of eleven matches against Harvard at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts in Tampa, Fla.
The Cats were once again led by senior Alex Hume who won both of his singles and doubles matches. The No. 61 Hume swept Harvard?s Sasha Ermakov in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, for his second singles victory of the tournament. Hume also teamed with fellow senior Nate Emge to convincingly beat the Crimson?s Brandon Chiu and Ermakov 8-2.
Kentucky recorded a second doubles victory when the freshmen combination of Bruno Agostinelli and Gregory Anderson battled to a 9-7 (7-4) win over Harvard?s Scott Danenberg and Brian Wan.
After winning one singles match on Friday by Hume, the Cats totaled five singles victories against the Crimson. UK?s highest ranked player, No. 48 Agostinelli, notched his first victory of the tournament by defeating Wan in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Senior Carey Rubin, who won two matches during last weekend?s Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships, defeated Harvard?s Chris Clayton in a tough three set match. The Canton, Mich., native won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 2-6. Rubin came back to push the final set to the tiebreaker before winning 7-6 (7-4).
Sophomore Marcus Sundh picked up another victory for the Wildcats by sweeping Danenberg 6-4, 6-2.
Rounding out the Cats? victories was Anderson who won the first collegiate singles match of his career. The Johannesburg, South Africa, native defeated Harvard?s Caleb Gardner in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
