The University of Kentucky men?s tennis team concluded its play in the Southeastern Conference Indoors Saturday at the Lexington Tennis Center. Two UK duos reached the quarterfinals in doubles, while three Cats reached the round of 16 in singles.
Nate Emge and Alex Hume defeated Vanderbilt?s Jordan Magarik and Ryan Preston 8-4 to advance to the quarterfinals of doubles, before falling to Georgia?s Luis Flores and Matic Omerzel 8-6. Bruno Agostinelli and Marcus Sundh topped Ivan Bjelica and Jose Carlos Pinto of Mississippi State 8-5 before dropping an 8-3 match to John Isner and Antonio Ruiz of Georgia.
Three Wildcats advanced to the round of 16 in singles action. Carey Rubin easily defeated Danny Bryant of LSU 6-3, 6-4 and Sundh breezed through a 6-0, 6-3 match with the Tigers? Martel Campbell. After winning a hard-fought 7-5 decision in the first set, Hume defeated Vanderbilt?s Nathan Sachs 6-2 in the second set to win the match.
Each of the three Kentucky players fell in the round of 16 singles action. Robbert Lathouwers of Auburn handled Rubin 6-4, 7-6 (2) and Juan Pablo DiCesare of Ole Miss topped Sundh 6-4, 7-5. Hume fell 6-4, 6-2 to LSU?s Colt Gaston.
Kentucky returns to action Friday when it travels to Tampa, Fla., to compete in the three-day South Florida Invitational. Complete results and a recap will be available at ukathletics.com.
