The Kentucky men?s tennis team returned to the courts Friday for the first time since November at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Indian Wells, Calif.
The NCTC was the first opportunity for junior Greg Johnstone and freshman Greg Anderson to make their Wildcat debuts.
Johnstone, a transfer from Morehead State, fell to Eric Riley of No. 1 Virginia in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Anderson, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, dropped the initial match of his collegiate career to tournament No. 2 seed Pierrick Ysern of San Diego 6-2, 6-2.
The Cats top-ranked player No. 48 Bruno Agostinelli was also back in action against one of the nation?s top players. The Niagara Falls, Canada, native lost a hard fought three-set match against tournament No. 1 seed and the 3rd-ranked player in the nation Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA 7-5, 6-7, 6-4.
Doubles action will continue today at the NCTC and 11 a.m. EST and the Cats will return to singles action next Friday when Kentucky hosts the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships and the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
