About Books for Children: Books for Children is a non-profit organization whose goal is to promote literacy through book ownership. Many children do not have an age-appropriate book in their homes. Books for Children wants to develop an excitement and love of reading by providing children with brand new, shiny books of their own.
Social service agencies in Fayette and Jessamine Counties work with Books for Children by distributing the books to children with whom they work. Some of the agencies that work with Books for Children are The Nest, Nathaniel Mission, Head Start, Cardinal Valley Hispanic Center and Family Resource Centers. Nearly 20,000 books have been distributed by Books for Children in the last five years.
