The Kentucky women?s swimming and diving team will return to action Saturday when they head to Arkansas to take on the Lady Razorbacks. The Cats (1-2, 0-1 SEC) will be looking to record their first Southeastern Conference meet victory of the season. Last season, the Wildcat women defeated Arkansas in Lexington. The win upped UK?s record to 9-1 all-time in the series.
The women are coming off a successful Nike Cup where the team finished third and everyone on ladies? squad set season-best times and scores. Highlighting the career-best efforts from the Nike Cup were junior Shantel Commander?s 4:21.18 swim in the finals to capture the 400 IM event and senior diver Jessica Thompson?s score of 304.65 in the finals to win the 1-meter diving event. Jenny Bradford also set the school record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.61.
?Without the men this Saturday?s meet at Arkansas is a good opportunity for the women to stand on their own and compete,? head coach Gary Conelly said. ?We are looking to see the women?s times in this meet match what our women accomplished at the Nike Cup.?
The meet will begin at 1 p.m. EST and fans can ukathletics.com for a complete recap of days? action.
