The Kentucky swimming & diving team finished their first day at the Nike Cup Swimming & Diving Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C., with seniors Daniel Farnham and Jessica Thompson registering victories.

Farnham, a returning All-America, began the day by finishing first in the preliminary round of the 50 freestyle event. The Rome, Ga., native continued his dominance by winning the final round of competition later in the evening with a season-best swim of 19.72.

Thompson, the returning 3-meter diving Southeastern Conference champion, finished first in the preliminary round of the 3-meter event and returned in the evening to win in the finals. The Nike Cup marked the third time this year Thompson has claimed the top spot in the 3-meter event. Fellow Wildcat divers Taryn Ignacio and Joey Brown finished second and third respectively, behind their teammate in this event.

The Cats finished in the top-five of six other events on the day highlighted by sophomore Jenny Bradford who finished second in the women?s 50 freestyle. The team of Shane Eliason, Daniel Farnham, Warren Grobbelaar and Kristian Outinen also placed second in the 400 Medley Relay event.
