The Kentucky men?s tennis team recorded a pair of victories Friday on the opening day of the Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Ga.

Senior Nate Emge, the No. 94 player in the nation, defeated Georgia?s Matic Omerzel, the 59th-ranked player, in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. The win marked the second victory this fall for Emge against a ranked opponent.

Marcus Sundh, who won the Flight A Singles Title at the Louisville Fall Classic, won his first match of the tournament by defeating Ole Miss? Bram ten Berge in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

Senior Alex Hume, as well as freshmen Bruno Agostinelli and Kenny Hodge lost their opening day matches against players from Ole Miss. Hume fell to Eric Claesson, the No. 110 player in the country, in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Agostinelli fell to Juan Pablo Di Cesare in straight sets 6-2, 6-0, while Hodge also lost to Jakob Klaeson in straight sets 7-6, 6-0.

Rounding out the day?s action was freshman Shane Collins and senior Carey Rubin. Collins fell to Stefan Tell of Florida, 6-1, 6-0, while Rubin lost 6-2, 6-1, to Ricardo Gonzalez of Georgia.

?We had a pretty good first day,? head coach Dennis Emery said. ?This is a really strong field with all five teams finishing in the top-15 last year. This is a great test for us playing against some of the best teams and players in the nation.?
