The University of Kentucky women?s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Auburn tonight, Nov. 4, in the semifinal round of the Southeastern Conference tournament in Orange Beach, Ala. The Wildcats end their season at 8-6-7, while the Tigers move to 8-11-1 and advance to Sunday?s Championship game.

?It was a tale of two games from Thursday to Friday night. We had just as many quality shots tonight but we just didn?t finish and they did,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?They defended us well but we have nothing to hang our heads about. We worked hard and got tons of chances, but they just didn?t get through tonight.?

The No. 7 seeded Wildcats upset No. 2 Ole Miss in the opening round to advance to the semifinal round. Auburn pulled an upset of its own, downing No. 2 Florida by a final score of 2-1 in their first-round match.

UK now owns a 9-11-1 all-time record in SEC Tournament play and suffered just its fourth shutout of the season.

The Tigers got on the board first when Ronda Brooks scored on a header off a pass from the corner by Courtney Crandell during the 31st minute.

UK goalkeeper Anne Ogundele made four saves and several big stops in the opening period to keep the deficit to just one goal at the break. The Wildcats had just four shots in the first half, including one on goal by senior Kristen Jedlo.

Auburn made it a 2-0 advantage in the 71st minute. Jada Stewart served it into penalty area where it deflected off a Kentucky defender to the feet of Kori Hoelscher who hit a shot near post to give Auburn a two-goal cushion.

All-SEC First Team selection Courtney McCrudden nearly erased the shutout but saw her shot with less than 10 minutes remaining deflect off the far post.

The Cats outshot the Tigers in the offensive showdown by a margin of 16-14. The Cats recorded 10 shots on goal to 11 for Auburn. Ogundele turned in an outstanding performance, tying a career-high with nine saves on the night.
