Men's Golf

The University of Kentucky men?s golf team returns to action this weekend, Oct. 23-25, at the Isleworth Invitational at Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla.

The ninth-ranked Wildcats will take senior Matt Kohn, junior Tyler Wilson, sophomore Brad Doster, and freshmen Dan Woltman and Andy Winings to compete in the 18-team field.

The field will be stellar as 13 of the top 20 teams from the latest Golf Coaches Association of America poll (Oct. 7) will be on hand, including defending Isleworth and NCAA champion Georgia. The Bulldogs are the consensus number one ranked team in the country and will be joined by the rest of the top five teams from that poll – Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, UNLV and Duke. The overall depth of the field is proved by the fact that 17 of the 18 teams competing are receiving votes in the top 25 poll.

“This is one of the most competitive fields of the year,? said head coach Brian Craig. ?We are playing with a tremendous amount of confidence and are prepared to play well. It should be a great opportunity to test ourselves on a very difficult course against the type of competition that we will see in the post-season.”

Arizona State, Augusta State, Clemson, Duke, Georgia, Georgia Tech, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Stanford, Toledo, Central Florida, UCLA, UNLV, Southern California, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest make up the 20-team field.

Due to the threat of inclement weather Sunday and Monday, the schedule for the 54-hole Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational will now begin play with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Sunday with the intention of playing up to 36 holes.

Monday’s play will be predicated on how many holes can be completed Sunday and the weather forecast for Monday and Tuesday. The original schedule was for the teams to play 18 holes each day Sunday through Tuesday.

Interested parties are encouraged to call the tournament’s weather information hotline at 407.876.8356 for the latest information regarding the tournament schedule.
