The University of Kentucky women?s soccer team fell to No. 23 Ole Miss tonight, Oct. 21, by a final score of 1-0. The Cats move to 6-4-7 on the year and 2-4-3 in the Southeastern Conference. The Rebels improve to 14-3 overall and lead the SEC west with an 8-1 league record.
The Rebels snapped a scoreless game in the second half when Christine Liberto took a pass in front of the goal from Jennifer Hance and kicked it past UK goalkeeper Anne Ogundele in the 52nd minute.
UK was held scoreless for just the second time this season, but the Cats have struggled offensively of late. Kentucky is without a win in its last three outings and has won just one game in its last seven, compiling a 1-4-2 record during that span.
The Wildcats had numerous chances against Ole Miss, recording seven shots on goal and outshooting the Rebels by a margin of 11-7. The Cats had nine shots in the first half. Sophomores Callie Lanphier and Nathalie Bolder each recorded two shots on goal.
?We outshot Ole Miss tonight and we had our chances to score, but we didn?t put it away,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?We have to find a way to come back from this loss and go hard against Mississippi State on Sunday. We have to go out and make some changes that will make a difference these next two games.?
The Cats return to action Sunday, Oct. 23, as they travel to Starkville to take on Mississippi State.
Seniors Liz Butler, Kristen Jedlo, Courtney McCrudden, Kristin Moyer, Ashley Schillig and Jen Weakley played their final game at the UK Soccer Complex and were honored in pre-game ceremonies. The Class of 2005 has two regular season games remaining this season at MSU on Sunday before wrapping up the regular season Oct. 28 at Vanderbilt.
