Kentucky freshman Bruno Agostinelli dropped his quarterfinal match to end his run at the Region Three Indoor Championships in Memphis, Tenn. Seniors Nate Emge and Alex Hume also lost in the semifinals of the doubles draw to wrap up the Wildcats? weekend.
Agostinelli ended his successful tournament in the quarterfinals by losing to the No. 5 seed Erling Tveit of Ole Miss. Agostinelli won the first set 3-6, before dropping the next two 6-3, 6-1.
?Bruno had an excellent tournament defeating the 14th-ranked player in the nation to reach the quarterfinals,? head coach Dennis Emery said. ?Bruno has been really impressive and is proving to be one of the top freshmen in the nation.?
In doubles action, Emge and Hume reached the semifinals before falling to LSU?s Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston 8-6. In route to the semifinals , the UK duo defeated Janne Holmia and Greg Ouellette of Florida 8-6 in the round 16. In the quarterfinals, Emge and Hume beat Tennessee?s Kaden Hensel and Ben Rogers 9-8.
The men?s tennis team will return to action Friday, Nov. 4, at the Bulldog scramble in Athens, Ga.
