The University of Kentucky women?s soccer team battled to a scoreless 0-0 draw with Georgia Friday night at the UK Soccer complex. With the tie, the Wildcats move to 6-2-7 on the year and 2-2-3 in the Southeastern Conference, while the Bulldogs are now 9-4-2 overall with a 3-3-1 mark in SEC play.

With the tie, the Wildcats tie the national record with their seventh of the season. Ball State and Campbell each ended the 2004 season with seven ties. UK also set a new school record with its eighth overtime contest of the year.

The Wildcats were outshot by a margin of 11-5 and recorded just one shot in the opening period. The Cats had three shot son goal to five for the Bulldogs. UK didn?t record a shot in either overtime.

Georgia had a chance to end it in the final second of regulation but was not able to get a shot off as time expired. Randi-Lynn Bruso got a head on a Missy Vierling corner kick early in the first overtime that was stopped on a terrific diving save by UK’s Anne Ogundele. Vierling then had another chance in the second overtime for the Bulldogs as she hit a 25-yard shot that would have just snuck under the crossbar, but UK goalkeeper Anne Ogundele made a terrific diving save as she knocked it over the bar.

Ogundele recorded five saves, while UGA keeper Lauren Church tallied three saves on the night.

?We defended really well tonight, but our possession was not good,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?I think we tied the game because we defended really well.?

The Wildcats return to action Sunday, Oct. 16, when they host SEC East-leader Tennessee. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
