The Kentucky volleyball team returns home this weekend to face SEC West teams Arkansas and LSU, who currently stand second and fourth in the conference, respectively.
The Wildcats, who split a pair of SEC road matches last weekend, enter the weekend sporting a 9-5 overall record and are 2-2 in league play.
The Wildcats split a pair of matches, defeating Georgia, 3-0, in Athens before falling to No. 5 Florida in Gainesville. Kentucky’s sweep of Georgia was the first by UK in the series since Oct. 4, 1996 – nearly nine years. Amy Kaplan had a solid weekend for UK, totaling 21 kills on .425 hitting. Danielle Wallace had 15 kills on .407 hitting against Georgia, and added 17 kills vs. the Gators. Jenni Casper averaged 4.33 digs per game on the weekend in a solid defensive effort.
Kentucky outside hitter Ashlee Fisher was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week following the Georgia and Florida matches. Fisher had 23 kills on .316 hitting last weekend. She had 11 kills on .296 hitting and three digs as UK swept UGA. It was UK’s first sweep of the Bulldogs since Oct. 4, 1996. Fisher followed with 12 kills, eight of which came in the third game, on .333 hitting at fifth-ranked Florida.
The Wildcats remain home next weekend before back-to-back SEC road weekends to close October. UK travels to Tennessee and South Carolina, Oct. 21-23 before taking its first trip to Mississippi State and Ole Miss since 2001, Oct. 28-30.
