LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of Kentucky women?s golf team will look to carry the momentum from a fourth-place finish at the Wildcat Fall Invitational into Chapel Hill, N.C., this weekend to participate in the prestigious Lady Tar Heel Invite.
The three-day, 54-hole event, which begins at 9:00 a.m. Friday and continues through Sunday, is being played at the University of North Carolina?s Finley Golf Course. Live stats of the tournament will be available at golfstat.com.
?Our team is playing great and we are looking forward to competing against such a strong field at North Carolina,? UK head coach Stephanie Barker said. ?We are coming off two great tournament finishes and three of our last six rounds have been our lowest in quite some time. If we keep doing the things that we have been practicing and executing in our last two events, we will perform well.?
Sophomore golfer Beth Felts (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led the Cats last weekend in the Wildcat Fall Invite, carding a five-over-par 221 to pace UK to a three-round total of 894 (291-299-304) to finish one stroke behind third-place Miami.
Participating teams in the 2005 Lady Tar Heel Invitational field include: Auburn, Duke, Florida State, LSU, North Carolina, NC State, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Tulsa, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest.
Finley Golf Course, originally constructed in 1949, was remodeled in 1999. The par-72, 6,285-yard course was selected by Golfweek as the 11th best collegiate course in the nation in 2004.
The Wildcats last participated in the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in 2002, when they finished with a three-day total of 914 (303-306-305) to finish 13th in a tournament field that featured 11 of the top 41 teams in the nation according to the final poll issued by Golfweek.
