SOUTH BEND, Ind. ? Billed as the marquee cross country meet of the weekend nationally, both University of Kentucky squads came through with solid showings at the 50th annual Notre Dame Invitational. The women?s team, led by a 26th-place finish by senior Allison Grace, finished 15th, while the men were carried by the junior John Richardson?s 44th-place finish.
Two-time All-SEC performer Allison Grace paced the women?s team with a 26th place finish (17:40) out of a 200 runner field on the 5K course. Grace has been the Cats? top finisher over the last eight races dating back to last year.
Sophomore Lavera Morris crossed the finish line second for the Cats in 71st with a time of 18:07, followed by junior Georganne Way (74th, 18:08), freshman Liliane Sparkes (82nd, 18:16) and sophomore Andrea Brown (126th, 18:45).
Freshmen Andrea Halasek, Andrea Taylor Miller and Whitney Popp also competed for UK.
For the men, junior John Richardson produced the top performance of the day, finishing 44th (24:46) on the 5-mile course.
Sophomore Andre Silva followed Richardson in 133rd with a time of 25:53. Behind Silva was junior Jonathan Thomas (145th, 26:05) and making his collegiate debut, freshman Ryan Finn (177th, 26:56).
On the men?s side, Arizona took home the team title with a score of 70 points. From the SEC, Florida and Alabama finished third and seventh, respectively. Wisconsin?s Chris Solinsky won the individual title with a time of 23:21. The opening mile went out in 4:28.
Stephanie Madia for Notre Dame won the women?s individual crown with a time of 16:36, while Michigan won the team title with 77 points.
The race featured six men?s teams ranked in the top-30 and eight for the women.
The Cats resume the race season Oct. 15, when they travel to University Park, Pa. for the Penn State Invitational.
