The University of Kentucky women?s soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw tonight, Sept. 23, with Louisiana State in its Southeastern Conference opener at the UK Soccer Complex. This was the fifth tie for the Wildcats who set a school record in that category and are now 4-0-5 on the year with a 0-0-1 mark in the league. The Tigers move to 4-2-2 overall and 0-0-1 in SEC play.
UK is now 5-7-1 in SEC openers and is winless in 12 straight overtime games.
The league foes were scoreless at the half, but the Wildcats led 4-1 in shots in the opening period.
LSU broke the scoreless tie when Kate Ripple chipped the ball over junior goalkeeper Anne Ogundele?s head during the 55th minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Kentucky battled back and knotted the score when Callie Lanphier fed Courtney McCrudden through the LSU defense. The senior beat LSU keeper Jackie Moseley one-on-one for her third goal of the season.
The Wildcats managed a pair of shots in the first overtime contest, but both Kelsey Fenix and McCrudden?s shots went wide of the goal to send the game to a second extra period.
UK had two more attempts in the second OT. This time, McCrudden?s attempt sailed high in the 101st minute and Kristen Jedlo?s shot was saved by Moseley in the 106th minute. LSU did not record a shot in either overtime.
The Cats outshot the Tigers 16-5 and recorded 13 corner kicks while LSU took three.
UK returns to action Sunday, Sept. 25, as it continues SEC play against Arkansas. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
