SIMPSONVILLE, Ky.? The University of Kentucky women?s golf team opened its 2005 fall season on a high note Tuesday, finishing in second place with a three-round total of 907 (311-300-296) at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup played at the University of Louisville?s Cardinal Club. The Cats were led by senior Erin Faulkner (Bowling Green, Ky.), who finished the tournament tied for second place with a two-over-par 218 (74-69-75).
Georgia State took home the tournament crown, firing a three-round total of 894 (304-291-299). The Panthers? Lisbeth Meincke claimed the event?s individual title for the second year in a row with a 1-under-par 215 (74-71-70). The Wildcats finished the tournament eight strokes ahead of host Louisville (292-320-303).
Sophomore Elizabeth Dotson (White Bluff, Tenn.) shot a 1-under-par 71 on the tournament?s final day to finish in a tie for sixth place with a three-round 225 (75-79-71), while senior Ali Kicklighter (DeLand, Fla.) finished in a tie for 10th place with a 232 (81-75-76).
Sophomore Beth Felts (Chattanooga, Tenn.) completed play in a tie for 25th place with a 236 (81-81-74) and junior Emily Culbertson (Crestview Hills, Ky.) finished tied for 37th with a three-round 240 (87-77-76). Competing as an individual, junior Katie Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) was 48th with a 246 (85-80-81) to round out the tournament field for the Wildcats.
