The University of Kentucky has completed its 2007 football schedule with the addition of in-state foe Eastern Kentucky as the season opener, UK Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart has announced.
The Wildcats will kick off the 2007 slate by playing host to the Colonels on Sept. 1. It will be the second time that the schools have met on the gridiron, as UK defeated EKU during the 1998 season.
The Eastern Kentucky matchup is the first of four non-conference games that will open the 12-game schedule. UK will play at Temple on Sept. 8 and will return home to face another in-state rival, Louisville, on Sept. 15. The Wildcats will host Florida Atlantic, coached by UK alumnus Howard Schnellenberger, on Sept. 22.
Southeastern Conference action begins at Arkansas on Sept. 29. In addition to the Razorbacks, UK will visit South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Georgia. SEC teams coming to Commonwealth Stadium include Louisiana State, Florida, Mississippi State, and Tennessee. All totaled, UK will have seven home games and five away games in the ?07 campaign.
Here is a look at Kentucky?s completed football schedules for the next two seasons. The 12-game regular-season schedule begins permanently in 2006. Future schedules: |
Holt, Parsons Practice: Senior wide receiver Glenn Holt and senior defensive end B. Jay Parsons, who each sustained a sprained ankle during last Saturday?s win over Idaho State, returned to practice on Thursday, Coach Rich Brooks announced. Normally, both players would be starting, but Brooks said it was uncertain if they would be able to start in Saturday?s game at Indiana or how much they would be able to play.
Because of the numerous injuries sustained by the Wildcats, several players with limited experience are likely to see extensive action against the Hoosiers. Sophomore strong safety Roger Williams is expected to make his first collegiate start, while others such as sophomore wide receiver John Logan, freshman wide receiver DeMoreo Ford, freshman defensive tackle Myron Pryor, freshman defensive tackle Ventrell Jenkins, and sophomore strong safety Dallas Greer could play a lot as well.
?We?ll have to see how they (inexperienced players) do in the game,? Brooks said. ?We expect them to step up.?
