The University of Kentucky women?s soccer team will host its fourth straight match on Tuesday night, Sept. 6, when it welcomes the Bellarmine Knights to Lexington. This is the fourth match of a five-game homestand and is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Kentucky remains unbeaten on the year after taking a 2-0 match from Miami of Ohio over the weekend. UK is now 2-0-1 on the year. Sophomore Sarah Gaunt became the only player to score multiple goals this season, while freshman Nicola Holdsworth recorded her first collegiate goal and assist in the win over the Redhawks.
The Wildcats have scored six of their eight goals this season in the second period and own a 76-14 shot differential, including a 34-1 margin in the opening period.
Bellarmine is currently 1-1 on the year. The Knights fell at McKendree 2-1 in their season opener before defeating Concord earlier this week, Sept. 4, by a final score of 4-1.
This marks the third meeting between UK and BU. The Wildcats lead 2-0 in the all-time series and have outscored the Knights 12-0 in two previous meetings. The last time they faced off, UK won a 3-0 decision in Louisville on Oct. 20, 1993.
?This is another test for us and another chance for us to grow as a team,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?We need to work on finishing the scoring opportunities. We?ve seen improvement in a lot of areas but there is always room for more progress.?
Fans will receive free admission with a ticket stub from Sunday?s UK-Louisville football game. The first 200 students in attendance will receive UK soccer stress relief balls, while everyone will have a chance to win an autographed UK women?s soccer ball.
