LEXINGTON ? Kentucky rifle senior Jeff Hamberg was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America at-large first team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Tuesday.

Hamberg, who carries a 3.891 grade-point average in foreign language/international economics with a concentration in German, was one of 15 NCAA Division I athletes selected to the first team out of 11 eligible sports. He was the lone rifle honoree on any of the three teams.

The award is the most recent of many this year for Hamberg. He earned an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship and was named the Great American Rifle Conference Student-Athlete of the Year. He also earned the CATSPY award for UK?s top student-athlete.

On the range, Hamberg led a young Kentucky squad to a sixth-place national finish as the team?s lone senior.
