SACRAMENTO, Calif. ? Michael Mason was the final UK athlete to attempt to make the finals at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., Thursday. The Nanoose Bay, B.C., native, cleared two heights, but failed to make the finals in his first appearance at nationals.
Mason cleared the opening height of 6-8 ? in his first attempt and moved on to the second height of 6-10 ?. The freshman missed on his first attempt, however, easily cleared the height on his second effort. The bar was raised for the third time to 7-0 ?, Mason missed on all three tries, which pushed him out of the competition.
Senior five-time All-American Jeff Chakouain was the lone Wildcat competitor to make the finals. The shot putter will attempt to claim his first national title on Friday evening at 11:15 p.m. EDT.
