The Kentucky women?s soccer team swept a pair of scrimmages this week at the UK Soccer Complex. The Wildcats recorded a pair of shutouts over Diadora Impact and the FOSC Mirage.
On Tuesday night, Apr. 19, UK downed Diadora Impact by a final of 4-0. Forward Elisabeth Jones led the team with a hat trick, while Kate Rowlands added the fourth goal for the Wildcats.
UK followed that victory with a 6-0 pouncing of the FOSC Mirage. Five players scored goals for the Cats, with two coming from Courtney McCrudden. Becky Russe recorded an assist on a goal by Nathalie Border. Kristin Moyer sailed in a corner kick, while Sarah Gaunt also booted the ball in the net for the Cats on an assist from Megan Jones. Elisabeth Jones added her fourth goal of the two-game span as the Cats went on to win the shutout.
Liz Butler and Anne Ogundele split time in the goal in both contests to combine for the two shutouts.
?I think we finished the spring season on a high note and things really started to come together towards the end,? said head coach Warren Lipka. ?This is the sort of momentum we want to carry into the fall season.?
The Wildcats open the fall slate with exhibition games at Louisville, Aug. 18, and at home against Wright State on Aug. 20. The regular season will begin Aug. 26 when the Cats host Michigan State at the UK Soccer Complex in a 7 p.m. contest.
