ATHENS, Ga.?The University of Kentucky women?s golf team surged three places Sunday to finish 15th at the Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga. The comeback was led by freshman Elizabeth Dotson who finished tied for 17th firing a three-day total of 227 (81-74-72). Dotson?s final round score of 72 and her three-day total of 227 were both career-lows.

Kentucky concluded the tournament with a three-day total of 954 (327-316-311). UK passed SEC foe Alabama, East Carolina University and Florida State in the standings on the final day of play. Georgia took home the team title with a score of 892 (298-294-300) for the three days, while LSU was finished second by 13 strokes with a total of 905 (300-300-305). Auburn and Tulane both tied for third with three day scores of 908. Tennessee missed third by one stroke, finishing fifth with a team total of 909.

Dotson?s impressive comeback not only moved the Cats up in the final standings, but inspired her teammates. Junior Ali Kicklighter shot three strokes lower than her second-day round to finish tied for 39th with a three-day total of 232 (81-77-74). Freshman Beth Felts broke her streak of consecutive rounds of 83, firing a third day 80, to end with a tournament total of 246. Katie Johnson and Alanna Silvertrust rounded out the top five with scores of 251 and 252, respectively. Georgia?s Kelly Froelich shot 71 for the final day to take home top individual medalist honors with a three-day score of 218 (74-73-71). Tennessee?s Violeta Retamoza was two strokes out of first, ending the tournament with a score of 220.

The Cats next travel to the SEC Women?s Golf Championships Apr. 15-17 in Tunica, Miss.
