LEXINGTON, Ky.?The No. 22 University of Kentucky gymnastics squad will compete in its final tune-up before the Southeastern Conference tournament Saturday with a trip to Denver, Colo., to face fellow top-25 foes Denver and Utah State in a tri-meet. Meet time is set for 8 p.m. EST in Hamilton Gymnasium and live stats will be available on ukathletics.com.
The Wildcats (10-9) are coming off a third-place finish in the five-team Colonial Classic hosted by George Washington University this past weekend in Washington D.C. The Cats finished with a 192.300 score to place above Yale and James Madison University. Senior Michelle Gales took second in the all-around with a 38.475 to lead UK.
The 14th-ranked Denver Pioneers (12-6) are fresh off a tri-meet win over Penn and Air Force last weekend, having scored a 195.425 in the victory. Denver gymnasts set or tied six career highs in their last outing and sophomore Gretchen Goerlitz registered a 9.925 to win the vault title.
Utah State is ranked 16th in the nation and is in first place in the Western Gymnastics Conference. The Aggies used their fifth consecutive 195.000-plus score in a 195.825 to 194.700 win over Southern Utah on Monday. Sophomore Jessica Parenti captured the all-around title with a 39.275 mark in USU?s last outing.
Following this week?s action, the Wildcats travel to Duluth, Ga., to compete in the SEC Championship March 26.
