FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ? Senior three-time All-American Beth Heimann competed in the final race of her college career Friday at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Heimann finished 14th in the women?s 800-meter run prelims and did not qualify for Saturday?s final.

?I am proud of the way that Beth ran tonight,? said UK head coach Don Weber. ?She had a great career at UK.?

The women?s 800-meter run began with an intense pace. As the pace steadied in the second lap Heimann made her move. She ran wide going into the turn to capture a second-place position.

?She did exactly what I instructed her to do,? said Weber. ?I feel bad because she ran a good race and executed the plan, but in the end, used too much energy in the middle of the race.?

Heimann kept her second place position until halfway through the last lap when she fell from second to sixth. Heimann ran a time of 2:09.32, while the Razorback?s Aneita Denton finished first with a time of 2:04.70. SEC women?s 800-meter champion, Nicole Cook did not qualify for the finals. Cook finished 12th with a time of 2:08.25.

?I wanted to go out with a bang, but everything considered I can?t dwell on the last race,? said Heimann. ?I had a great five years at UK.?

Heimann entered the race with the seventh fastest time (2:05.93) in the country. Last year she finished sixth at the NCAA Championships and holds the school record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.72.

The NCAA Championships continue tomorrow when UK?s freshman standout, Michael Mason will compete for the men?s high jump title. Mason will compete at 4:45 p.m.
