LEXINGTON – Kentucky (12-3, 1-0) kicked off conference play in dominant fashion Friday evening, sweeping each match on its way to a 7-0 victory over Mississippi State (6-1, 0-1) at UK?s Boone Indoor Tennis Center. UK claims its sixth-consecutive match and pushes its all-time record against the Bulldogs to 24-3.

UK sophomores Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk opened doubles play with an easy 8-1 win at the second doubles slot over MSU?s Magdi Rekasi and Polina Kokoulina. The Cats? Sarah Foster and Aibika Kalsarieva clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 win at first singles, and Emily Foster and Lara Maurer added an 8-6 win at the third position.

Coventry needed all of 45 minutes to dispatch Tarryn Rudman at the third singles slot, giving Kentucky a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Schwenk followed suit shortly thereafter, defeating Kokoulina by a 6-0, 6-2 count for a 3-0 Wildcat lead. Sarah Foster clinched the match for Kentucky at the second singles position, defeating Kugakolova, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, to pick up her sixth-consecutive win.

Maurer added to the Kentucky tally with her fifth win in six matches, a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Rekasi. Kalsarieva outlasted MSU?s Fodor in a two-and-a-half hour battle at the first singles position, defeating Fodor in a third-set supertiebreaker. Junior Danielle Petrisko capped the shutout victory with a straight-set win over MSU?s Renee Joseph.
