Kentucky senior forward Chuck Hayes has been named first team All-District 7 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The award, selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, goes to the finest basketball players in the country.
All 150 athletes honored from 15 districts are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Team, to be announced at the end of the basketball season. Joining Hayes on the District 7 team were Louisville?s Francisco Garcia and Taquan Dean, Memphis? Rodney Carney and Tennessee Tech?s Willie Jenkins.
Other Southeastern Conference athletes honored include Mississippi State?s Lawrence Roberts, Alabama?s Kennedy Winston and Ernest Shelton, Florida?s Anthony Roberson, Ronnie Brewer from Arkansas and LSU?s Brandon Bass.
Hayes is averaging 10.7 ppg and 8.6 rpg for the 20-3 Wildcats. Hayes already ranks among the Kentucky greats in scoring (42nd all-time at UK, 1,085 points) and rebounding (7th all-time at UK ? 845) and has a chance to finish in UK?s top-10 for career steals and blocks.
