The University of Kentucky men?s golf team opened the spring season today, Feb. 5, at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. Wake Forest leads the 15-team field with a score of 577 (286-291).
The Wildcats are currently tied for 13th with a team score of 604 (294-310) through two rounds of play. UAB is tied with Florida for second place with scores of 578, followed by South Carolina in fourth which fired an opening day team score of 580. Florida State and Louisiana State round out the top five with identical scores of 583.
Senior John Holmes is tied for 25th and leads UK with a two-round score of 147 (74-73), while fellow seniors Brandon Waldrop and Mark Blakefield posted scores of 152 (77-75) and 154 (76-78), respectively. Sophomore Andrew Stephens stands at 66th with a score of 155 (74-81) and junior Matt Kohn rounds out the scoring for UK with a total of 157 (72-85). Sophomore Cale Barr played the tournament as an individual and is tied for 17th overall with a two-round total of 145 (75-70).
Play continues Sunday, Feb. 6, with the third and final round of play set to begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
