LEXINGTON, Ky.? Kentucky freshman Michael Mason finished first in the men?s high jump with a mark of 7-2 1/4, besting his own freshman school record set just two weeks prior, to highlight a convincing opening night of the McCravy Memorial Friday evening in Nutter Field House.
Mason topped his previous freshman-best mark of 6-10 3/4 set at the Kentucky Invitational and his score also provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Championship.
UK?s men?s and women?s squads both captured the distance medley titles. The women, comprised of Liliane Sparkes, Beth Heimann, Georganne Way, and Allison Grace, finished first in the event with an 11:53.92 mark, while the men, comprised of Stephan Smith, Gabe McLaren, Ryan DeLuca and Andre Silva posted a time of 10:14.00.
Domonique Brown finished second in the women?s triple jump with a leap of 36-8 1/4 for the Wildcats while senior Gennessa Guzman captured second in the women?s weight throw with a mark of 58-5 1/4.
