LEXINGTON, Ky.?The No. 17 Kentucky Gymnastics squad looks to get back on the winning track Friday evening as it hosts No. 6 Georgia for ?Cram the Coliseum? at Memorial Coliseum. Meet time is set for 7:30 p.m., and live stats will be available on ukathletics.com.
Tickets for the meet are $5 with $2 tickets available for seniors and children 18 and under. Help support the UK gymnasts ?Cram the Coliseum?, print off the picture at the bottom of this article and bring it to the ticket office to receive 2 for 1 admission. All Girl Scouts who attend the event in uniform receive free admission, and the first 300 fans through the doors get trading cards featuring the UK sophomore gymnasts.
The Wildcats (1-1, 0-1 Southeastern Conference) are coming off of a narrow loss to No. 13 Arkansas last Friday. After falling behind early, the Cats posted an impressive showing on floor to close the meet, but fell 194.925-193.575 to the Lady ?Backs. Trailing 146.200-144.475 heading into the final event, UK registered a 49.100 on the floor, the eighth-highest floor score in school history. Five Kentucky gymnasts notched 9.70 scores or higher on floor. Sophomore Rachel Riley has won the all-around title in each of the Cats first two meets, capturing the title last Friday with a 39.075 score.
?Georgia scored 195.800 against Auburn and hit their sets,? UK head coach Mo Muhammad said. ?With Georgia coming in with a score of 195 we can compete with them. All we have to do is hit our sets and be mentally prepared for a huge match-up.?
The Gym Dogs, last-year?s NCAA runners-up, enter the contest with a perfect 6-0 record and have won 18 consecutive SEC dual meet competitions. After losing six seniors to graduation a year ago, Georgia will have to rely on a young, but talented class in 2005. The Gym Dogs defeated seventh-ranked Auburn last Friday night 195.800-193.575. Georgia posted a team score of 49.100 on beam while Auburn marked a 48.85 on floor. Junior Brittany Smith led the Gym Dogs with a season-high 9.9 on beam, while senior Michelle Emmons, followed with a season-high 9.85.
