LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of Kentucky gymnastics team had four members garner 4.0 grade-point averages during the first semester. Seniors Kara Prestigiacomo and Lindsay Cameron as well as freshmen Crissy Cannon and Kristen Kaufman all earned perfect academic scores.
?I am so proud of the team for their accomplishments in the classroom,? UK head coach Mo Muhammad said. ?We work extremely hard on athletic performances in the gym, but we strive for the gymnasts to work twice as hard in the classroom.?
The Wildcats set a goal at the beginning of the semester to reach a team cumulative GPA of 3.3 and fell just short, earning a GPA of 3.28. Although the team narrowly missed its goal, junior Bethany Strauch and sophomores Krystle Cook and Rachel Riley also recorded outstanding performances in the classroom to boost the team performance.
?The team set a goal and just narrowly missed it,? said Muhammad. ?They work so hard to accomplish their athletic and academic goals and to see them representing Kentucky as solid student-athletes makes the coaching staff very proud.?
