After a tough road loss at No. 9 North Carolina Saturday, Kentucky returns home to Rupp Arena Wednesday to face former UK All-American Kyle Macy and his Morehead State Eagles.
The Wildcats dropped a 91-78 decision to the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill over the weekend, the first loss of the season for UK. Carolina controlled the game from start to finish, leading by 18 points early (24-6). Kentucky managed to come back in the second half, cutting the advantage to six points, but couldn?t stop dominating performances from UNC?s Sean May (14 pts, 19 rebs) and Rashad McCants (game-high 28 points).
Macy, the beloved point guard who guided UK to the 1978 NCAA title, is in his eighth season as coach of the Eagles. Another familiar face also graces the MSU bench as Allen Edwards, a member of Kentucky?s 1996 and 1998 NCAA title teams, is in his second season as assistant coach at Morehead State. Wayne Breeden, a manager for UK in 1983, also serves as an assistant for the Eagles.
The Wildcats travel to Louisville this weekend for their annual neutral-site matchup with Indiana before enjoying a week off for fall semester final exams.
Scouting the Eagles
Morehead State, which enters Wednesday?s game with a 4-1 record, has won its last three, including a 64-52 victory over IPFW Saturday. The Eagles only loss on the year came at Columbia on Nov. 20 – a 76-58 decision.
Chad McKnight, a senior forward from Lancaster, Ohio, leads the team , averaging 16.8 ppg and 7.6 rpg. McKnight had 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting vs. IPFW.
