Men's Tennis

Bruno Agostinelli, a top Canadian junior player, and Shane Collins, one of Kentucky?s top high school players, have signed national letters-of-intent to join the Kentucky men?s tennis program, UK Men?s Tennis Coach Dennis Emery announced this afternoon.

Agostinelli, who hails from Niagara Falls, Ontario, has enjoyed his standing as one of Canada?s top junior players for several years. Agostinelli earned a top-10 ranking from the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in the boys? 14-and-under division. His progress continued through his mid teens, as he finished third in the boys? 16 singles division at the Canadian Outdoor National Championships. He has been ranked as high as No. 448 by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Agostinelli scored an ATP ranking over the summer by defeating Moskisha Washington in a USTA futures event in Buffalo, N.Y

?Bruno is a very talented player who almost certainly will play at the top of our lineup during his UK career,? Emery said. ?He reminds me of (former UK All-American) Cedric Kauffman at the same pint in his career.?

Collins is the team captain of the defending KHSAA team champion St. Xavier boys? tennis team. The Louisville native reached the semifinals of the KHSAA Boys? Singles Championships, where he fell to his future teammate, UK freshman Nolan Polley. Collins? singles performance helped St. Xavier to its second state crown in three seasons.

?Shane fulfills our goal of trying to recruit the best players in the state,? Emery said. ?He is a talented player who I feel will be a late bloomer. He is coming from one of the best team tennis situations in the country and understands the team dynamic very well.?
