HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. ? The University of Kentucky men?s golf team travels to Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. for the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship November 14-16. The tournament, held at Mission Inn Resort, will be the last fall event for the Wildcats.
Kentucky was named fourth seed of the first-round bracket and will take on No. 13 seed Clemson. The SEC/ACC clash between seventh ranked Kentucky and Clemson begins Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
Defending national champion California highlights the men’s field, which includes 14 of the top 15 finishers at the 2004 NCAA Championships. In addition to Kentucky, the field also includes Arizona, Florida, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Pepperdine, Purdue, Texas A&M, Texas, UCLA and Washington.
The men’s and women’s tournaments will be played simultaneously with the men competing on El Campe?n and the women teeing off on Las Colinas. Invitation to the match play was based on team finishes at 2004 NCAA Championships.
The Hooters Match Play Championship is sponsored by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), in association with Hooters of America, Inc. The event will be co-hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission.
