UK Hoops News:
The Kentucky women?s basketball team concludes exhibition play when it faces the West Coast All-Stars on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. The game will be open to the public with no charge for admission. Free UK Hoops posters and schedule cards will be given away.
The Wildcats are coming off a 76-62 victory over the Ohio Legends last week. Freshman center Sarah Elliott led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting and a 4-of-5 clip from the charity stripe. Senior and preseason All-SEC selection Sara Potts added 10 points and connected on 2-of-4 three-pointers, to complement a team-high six rebounds.
Elliott highlighted the sixth-ranked freshman class, which combined for 30 points and 14 rebounds. Fellow freshman Samantha Mahoney had nine points, while Eleia Roddy charted seven points.
UK Coach Mickie DeMoss will be looking for increased energy on the defensive end as the Cats compete in their final pre-season tune-up.
?Intensity has to come from the defensive end. I thought we lacked intensity in our first game,? DeMoss said. ?We just have to get more solid on defensively. We?ve been working hard in practice and I?m anxious to see how we come together.?
The All-Stars are 0-3 in exhibition competition, having dropped contests to New Mexico, Texas Tech and UNLV. With the win Thursday, Kentucky improved to 3-0 in exhibition games over DeMoss? two-year tenure.
Kentucky opens its regular season on Friday, Nov. 19, as it faces Butler at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum.
Season tickets are only $20. Call the UK ticket office at 859-257-1818 or 1-800-928-CATS (2287) to order tickets for women?s basketball.
