Kentucky senior All-American Aibika Kalsarieva defeated sophomore teammate Sarah Foster but dropped her ensuing quarterfinal match Friday at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Kalsarieva defeated Foster by a 6-2, 6-2 count in the round of 16 before falling to Miami?s second-ranked Megan Bradley, 6-4, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. Nonetheless, Kalsarieva scored her second career quarterfinal finish in a national tournament. The Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan native made the quarterfinals of the 2004 NCAA Singles Championships last May in Athens, Ga.

Earlier in the day, Foster and Kalsarieva dropped an 8-2 decision to New Mexico?s Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek in the consolation doubles bracket.

?Sarah and Aibika have already displayed an extraordinary level of tennis in their short time at Kentucky, but they showed me this weekend their highest level of tennis since they arrived on campus, and that?s saying a lot,? UK Coach Mark Guilbeau said. ?Playing great tennis in the fall prepares them for the spring, and that?s what it takes to do well in post-season play.?
