Homecoming Activities: This week?s Homecoming activities continue Friday night with the Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally.
The Homecoming Parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium and conclude at Stoll Field on the Avenue of Champions (Euclid Avenue). The Pep Rally will be at Stoll Field following the parade.
On Saturday, the Homecoming King and Queen and the Homecoming Court will be introduced by UK President Lee T. Todd Jr. and First Lady Patsy Todd. The ceremony will take place during halftime.
Boyd, Hayes, Nance to be Honored at Johnson Banquet: Three Wildcat student-athletes, football quarterback Shane Boyd, men?s basketball forward Chuck Hayes, and softball outfielder Jessica Nance, will be honored Friday night with ?Torch Bearer? awards at the annual Lyman T. Johnson UK Alumni Banquet at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lexington.
Boyd, Hayes, and Nance are among several UK students who are being recognized for their achievements in academics, campus activities, and leadership.
1964 Team Has Reunion: Kentucky will honor the 1964 team and its victory over top-ranked Ole Miss that season with a special halftime ceremony.
UK, coached by former Wildcat Charlie Bradshaw (1946-49), led UK to an upset of No. 1-ranked Ole Miss on Sept. 26, 1964. Bradshaw?s Cats held off the Rebels, 27-21, in Memorial Stadium at Jackson, Miss., and ranks as one of UK?s all-time biggest victories.
Rick Kestner hauled in nine passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns in the win. In the third quarter, Kestner was on the receiving end of a 32-yard halfback pass from Rodger Bird to give UK a 13-7 lead.
Kestner added two additional scores on tosses from QB Rick Norton (60 and 23 yards) as the Wildcats rallied from 14-13 and 21-20 deficits late in the second half for the upset.
Honorary Captains: Honorary captains for this week?s game are from the 1964 team, Rick Kestner, Talbott Todd, and Bill Jenkins. Jenkins was a captain from the ?64 team and Kestner and Todd have been instrumental in helping organize the reunion.
Rollins, Lyons Earn Game Captain Roles: Senior offensive guard Jason Rollins and freshman kick returner Dicky Lyons are the game captains for this week?s contest vs. South Carolina, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.
Game captains are selected each week based on their performance in the previous week?s game and usually include one representative from special teams. Rollins blocked well in last week?s game vs. Alabama. Lyons had one kickoff return for 41 yards and a punt return for eight yards against the Tide.
Rollins and Lyons will join permanent captains Sweet Pea Burns and Shane Boyd at the coin toss.
Tickets Available: Tickets for the South Carolina at Kentucky game are available at a cost of $29 (sideline) and $22 (end zone) each. Kickoff is slated for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium.
The Memorial Coliseum ticket office will be open on Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The stadium ticket office will open Saturday at 5 p.m.
Game Day Honorees and Activities for the South Carolina Game:
Fans are encouraged to welcome the team during the ?Cat Walk? outside Gate 1 of the stadium. The team will arrive at approximately 4:45 p.m.
The ?Rally in the Alley? is a tailgate area for students, located between Commonwealth Stadium and Nutter Field House at gates 14 and 15. The ?Rally in the Alley? begins two hours before the game (5 p.m. for the South Carolina game). Radio station 104.5 The Cat will be providing the music.
The ?Wildcat Refuge? children?s play area opens at 5 p.m. The UK volleyball team will be signing autographs in the Refuge from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The UK Marching Band will parade around the stadium, beginning at approximately one hour prior to kickoff. The band parade will begin at Gate 4 and end at Gate 9.
At the end of the first quarter, UK President Dr. Lee T. Todd Jr., First Lady Patsy Todd, and Provost Mike Nietzel will honor Dr. William Nunn Lipscomb, a UK graduate who won the 1976 Nobel Prize for chemistry. Dr. Lipscomb and his wife, Jean Evans, returned to UK this week to celebrate UK Arts and Sciences Week.
