University of Kentucky senior, Matt Wells has accepted an invitation to play in the 30th Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, the only individual stroke-play event in the NCAA. The tournament, which is hosted by the Sun Bowl Association, is Nov. 22-23 at the El Paso Country Club in El Paso, Texas.
The field consists of All-Americans from the previous year. Wells, a native of Wilmington, N.C., is just the second Kentucky golfer to participate in the field. John Holmes played in the tournament in 2002.
?I know that Matt is very excited to play in this prestigious event. It is a great honor to be an All-American and also be invited to play in the tournament,? UK head coach Brian Craig said. ?Matt will get to test his game by playing against some of the best golfers at the collegiate level. This tournament is an opportunity for him to gain experience and see how he measures up,? said Craig.
Wells finished in the top-25 at the prestigious Ping Preview that was held at the Caves Valley Golf Club on Sept. 26-27. The UK men?s golf team?s next scheduled competition is Oct. 11-12 when they co-host the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate in Tampa, Fla.
