University of Kentucky?s women?s golf team wrapped up competition at the UK Wildcat Fall Invitational today, beating eight teams to finish fourth in the tournament. At the University Club of Kentucky the Wildcat Blue team was led by freshmen Elizabeth Dotson and Beth Felts throughout the tournament. Dotson concluded the tournament tied for seventh 228 (77-72-79) and Felts came in second for the UK Blue team in 18th place firing 234 (76-81-77). Helping the UK White team to an eighth place finish, Ali Kicklighter wrapped up the three day tournament tied for 15th shooting 75 for the final round.
?I was happy that the team came through with a decent third round, enough to move into fourth. I know Beth (Felts) and Elizabeth (Dotson) struggled a little bit, but today Emily (Culbertson) played better, everyday someone comes through for us,? UK head coach Stephanie Martin said.
Alana Silvertrust finished tied for 19th as an individual after shooting a 78 third round. Sophomore Emily Culbertson fired the lowest third round for the UK Blue team, 76 to tie for 26th. Chapin Hoskins shot 242 (84-8-78) for the tournament and junior Erin Faulkner finished with 252 (85-79-88) after 54 holes.
The Kentucky White Team had good showings in the third round by Kicklighter (75) and Katie Dixon (74) who tied for 19th. Katie Johnson finished the tournament third for the UK White, with Stacy Springer finishing next for the White team, shooting a 79 third round. Laura Clemmons completed the UK White five with 255 for the tournament.
?I think that they are all phenomenal players, my mentality is that they are all capable of shooting par and under and I think that they have the same expectations. They had a lot of good shots and some great holes today. If they would have had a few more putts that dropped and some balls that didn?t go in the water they all would have had phenomenal rounds,? said Martin.
Mississippi State won the UK Wildcat Fall Invitational after 54 holes shooting +34 (898), finishing 30 shots ahead of second-place finisher, Miami +64 (928). Mississippi State?s Amanda Mathis held on to her second day lead to win the tournament three-over 219 (73-71-75). The next closest finishers were Stacy Tate (Memphis), Santie Koch (Murray State) and Stephanie Godare (Mississippi State) all at eight over.
The UK women next tournament is at the UT Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship which begins this Friday. The three day tournament will conclude Sunday, Oct. 10.
