Kentucky (5-4-1, 2-0-1) looks to extend its unbeaten streak to seven matches Sunday when the Cats meet No. 20 Auburn (7-2-1, 2-0-1) in another early crucial conference match. The Cats and Tigers are set for a 2 p.m. EDT start at the UK Soccer Complex.
UK enters Sunday?s match as a victor in five of its last six matches after a 1-0 win Friday night against Alabama. Junior defender Kristin Moyer once again came through in the clutch, heading in an 89th-minute corner kick from Courtney McCrudden to seal the victory. Last Sunday at Arkansas, Moyer headed in an 86th-minute corner kick from Kristen Jedlo to force overtime after the Cats appeared on their way to their first conference loss.
UK junior goalkeeper Liz Butler has been stellar in goal through the last four matches. The Overland Park, Kan., native has recorded shutouts in three of the last four matches, bringing her career total to nine. Butler will match up with an equally adept goalkeeper Sunday in Auburn?s Megan Rivera. Butler and Rivera share the SEC lead in conference shutouts with two apiece. Rivera and Butler also are Nos. one and two, respectively, in goals-against average, and Butler and Rivera are Nos. one and two in save percentage.
Kentucky holds a 6-2-1 advantage in its series with Auburn. UK took a 1-0 first-half lead behind an Ashley Schillig goal a season ago at Auburn before the Tigers provided the equalizer midway through the second half. UK and AU proceeded to two overtime periods but managed nothing further in a 1-1 tie. Kentucky has won the last two meetings in Lexington.
