Men's Golf

The University of Kentucky?s men?s golf team moved up two places from day one to finish eighth at the Ping Preview in Owings Mills, Md.

?After two disappointing days we had a really good day to end the tournament in a positive way. They call this tournament The Preview for a reason and we will remember that when we return for the NCAA Championship tournament,? UK head coach Brian Craig said.

For the Cats, John Holmes played an impressive third round firing the lowest round of the tournament and third round with a five-under, 65. Holmes had five birdies for the day moving up 33 places from day one to end the tournament tied for 12th.

?John had a great third round. He had a couple off days and shot a tournament low round today, I am proud of the way he bounced back. He led the charge for the team, he came out today and played his game and had a great day. His performance today was huge and we needed that,? Craig said.

Wildcat Matt Wells shot a one-over 71 for the third round to tie for 21st. Mark Blakefield ended the tournament tied for 27th posting even second and third rounds. Brandon Waldrop fired a third round 76 for 27th place. Jack Hudson shot three over 73 to finish out the tournament and round out the Kentucky five.
