LEXINGTON ? This weekend, the Kentucky rifle team will continue preparations for the 2004-05 season with its second intra-squad scrimmage of the year.

For the Freshman Challenge, the squad will break up into two teams, one made up of eight upperclassmen and the other with the four freshmen.

?I think it should be fun,? said head coach Harry Mullins. ?It?s a good way to challenge the upperclassmen right away and to get the freshmen into pressure competition settings.

There will be eight head-to-head matches ? four in smallbore and four in air rifle ? with each of the eight being worth one point. Each freshman will compete in both events while the upperclassmen will compete in one event.

?I think, overall, learning how to perform in intense pressure conditions is the key thing this weekend,? Mullins said. ?If we can do that, that will carry us a long way this season as far as being able to perform.?
