Kentucky junior Nate Emge tallied the biggest victory of his collegiate career Friday afternoon when he toppled top-seeded Gabor Zoltan Pelva at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga.

The 119th-ranked Emge, now in his second year as a Wildcat after transferring from Penn State, turned away Zoltan Pelva, the nation?s sixth-ranked student-athlete, by a 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 count. Earlier in the day, Emge defeated Florida A&M?s Vassil Zaharlev by a 6-2, 6-2 count. Emge advances to Saturday?s third round in Athens. UK junior Tigran Martirosyan defeated Virginia Tech?s Stephane Rod by a 6-1, 6-3 count but was eliminated later in the day by Georgia?s Strahinja Bobusic.

At the Charles Fluitt Invitational on the UK campus, all six Wildcats playing in the event earned two singles victories apiece, with freshmen Nolan Polley and Marcus Sundh picking up their first collegiate victories. Senior Jesse Witten also picked up a pair of victories, as did senior Matt Emery and sophomores Jason Mallaiah and Matt Allinder.

Singles action continues in Athens and Lexington on Saturday.
